I am an animal lover,
I found a true love and friendship in an animal's heart.
I am a dog owner, pack leader and a dog lover.
But,
I love working dogs (or other working animals) even more,
Because they do the best they could for our (human) sake.
I also have a very special place for Military Working Dogs,
due to my husband being in the military, my love for working dogs and what I learned about them and their sacrifices to save a lot of lives.
Today,
I dedicate this blog entry for GABE!
He is a Specialized Search Dog.
Gabe is a yellow lab who came from a pound in Houston, TX where the military adopted and then trained him.
Gabe started his duty in 2006 when he deployed to Iraq. He was fortunate enough to work with some truly amazing soldiers. His job was to find hidden guns and explosives and to help keep our soldiers safe. While deployed, he completed over 210 combat missions with 26 finds of explosives and weapons.
He also visited wounded troops in combat hospitals and visited children in elementary schools.
Gabe and his (human) dad continue to educate children about respect and the importance of staying in school and they hope to represent the Military Police is a very positive way for years to come.

Gabe and his handler, friend, dad, Charles Shuck.
He was selected as the American Kennel Club Heroic Military Working Dog in 2008 and was the runner up in the military category for the 2011 Hero Dog Award. He retired in 2009 after a very distinguished career earning over 40 awards and coins of excellence for his work.
Gabe is competing for the United States War Dog Association, Inc., a nonprofit organization of former and current U.S. Military Dog handlers and supporting members committed to promoting the long history of the Military Service Dogs, establishing permanent War Dog Memorials, and educating the public about the invaluable service of these dogs to our country.
